FINALLY: Updates from the Homestead

After a month and a half without a computer, I'm back in action typing and it's time for updates. You may not have been able to follow along but I have been busy and the farm has not only kept pace but is thriving in ways that bring both satisfaction and excitement. From the freezer already stocked with chickens to the buzzing activity of new bee colonies, the homestead is alive with growth and joy.
The Quick Passage of Time on the Farm
Six and a half weeks is enough time for a lot of changes to take place on the farm. The chickens, which were once just tiny yellow chicks, are now processed and stored in the freezer, ready to provide meals for the months ahead. This quick turnaround highlights how fast farm life moves, especially in spring and early summer.
The seeds I started indoors when there was still snow on the ground, have been transplanted outside. Watching these plants grow from tiny seedlings to fresh produce ready for harvest is one of the most rewarding parts of farming. It’s a reminder that patience and care pay off in tangible, delicious ways. Although my kids were happy when the deer ate my kale.
Two fresh colonies of bees arrived late May. With a new location on the farm to call home, I have high hopes for a lot of fresh honey to keep me sweet all winter long.
